What happens if your child is in tears when you drop them off?

Children will need to say goodbye to their parents at the wooden Gardens Nook gate. We need to give the teacher a chance to settle them and draw them into the environment.

If the child struggles to say goodbye at the gate, the teacher (Jo, Phumeza or Rita) will take them inside to try and settle them but will also be in touch with you and let you know that they have settled. Having you say goodbye at the gate shows the child that you trust the teacher and that they can too. Having said that, if any child is not able to settle after 25-30 minutes we’re likely to call you to fetch them.

We know that a child may be getting sick, for example, which could be adding to the struggle to separate. So please know that although we want to give the teacher the best opportunity to settle the child in, if there appears to be something else going on, we will certainly be in touch with you.

Sometimes, the children are so brave in their first week and then struggle to separate thereafter for a couple of weeks! However the journey looks for you and your family, we’re committed to walking it with you and gently welcoming your child into Gardens Nook!
